Santa Cruz Warriors sweep Fort Wayne for title - Apr 27, 2015
The third time was the charm for the Santa Cruz Warriors. The second time wasn't half as nice for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Santa Cruz beat the Mad Ants 109-96 in Game 2 on Sunday at Kaiser Permanente Arena to sweep the best-of-three NBA Development League Finals and win their first championship in their third-straight appearance in the finals. Fort Wayne, attempting to repeat as championship, lost their first series playoff series in two years. Offensive firepower pushed the Warriors past the Mad Ants as they seized control late in the first half and into the third quarter. Darington Hobson (6'7''-G/F-87, college: N.Mexico) scored 22 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists to lead the way for Santa Cruz. Elliot Williams (6'5''-SG-89, college: Memphis) socred 23 points and James Michael McAdoo (6'9''-F-93, college: N.Carolina) - assigned to Santa Cruz by the Golden State Warriors for the home portion of the series - scored 21 points with seven rebounds. Taylor Griffin (6'8''-F-86, college: Oklahoma) scored 15 with 11 rebounds and Ognjen Kuzmic, another Golden State player, scored 10 points with 10 rebounds. All five starters scored in double figures for the Mad Ants: Jordan Crawford (6'4''-G-88, college: Xavier) 17, C.J. Fair 16, Matt Bouldin (6'5''-G-88, college: Gonzaga) 15, and Trey McKinney-Jones (6'6''-G-90, college: Miami, FL) and Ramon Harris (6'7''-F-88, college: Kentucky) with 12 apiece. Jam wins D-League's inaugural Showcase Cup - Jan 20, 2015
Tournament MVP Archie Goodwin (6'5''-G-94, college: Kentucky) scored 22 points Monday to lead the Bakersfield Jam to a 105-99 victory over the Grand Rapids Drive in the championship game of the inaugural NBA Development League Showcase Cup. Goodwin also had nine rebounds and three steals. Bakersfield led 52-47 at intermission, but Grand Rapids led 77-70 heading into the final quarter. Joe Jackson (6'1''-G-92, college: Memphis) had 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting for Bakersfield, and Jamil Wilson (6'7''-F-90, college: Marquette) added 16 points and three blocks. Earl Barron totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Casey Prather had 16 points and five steals. Lorenzo Brown (6'5''-G-90, college: N.Carolina St.) paced the Drive with 17 points and 10 rebounds with six assists and four steals. Spencer Dinwiddie (6'6''-G-93, college: Colorado) supplied 16 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Courtesy of: bakersfieldcalifornian.com
Fort Wayne's Emmett shines - East wins D-League All-Star Game - Feb 16, 2015
Oklahoma City Blue guard, Semaj Christon (6'3''-G-92, college: Xavier), got the start for the Western Conference Prospects but wasn't able to lead his team to victory as the Eastern Conference Futures secured a win in the 2015 NBADL All-Star game 129-94. The game was hosted in Brooklyn, NY in the Barclays Center where over 7000 passionate D-League basketball fans filled nearly half of the arena for a shootout. The All-Star game is split into two 20 minute halves like a college game and the coaches basically tell the players to take a shot every time the touch the ball. The first half wasn't all that bad as the two teams traded blows (and points) back and forth for 20 minutes. The half showcased 11 lead changes but the East would have the final laugh as All-Star Game MVP, Andre Emmett (6'5''-F-82, college: Texas Tech), nailed a last second 3-pointer to give the East a 55-52 lead heading into the break. As the teams headed into the locker room at halftime, the real show started as the D-League dunk contest took place at halftime. The contest featured some of the league's best dunkers and was actually a really good show but one name rose above the rest: Jarvis Threatt (6'2''-PG-93, college: Delaware). The second half showcased the offensive firepower for one team as the East took complete control of the game as they went on a 29-6 run in the first 10 minutes of the half to extend their lead to 26 points and the Futures would never look back as they'd close on a 32-23 run to close out the game in exciting fashion as they would wrap up a 129-94 victory. The West was led by Reno's Quincy Miller-Scott (6'9''-F-92, college: Baylor), who just got back to the D-League after a stint with the Kings. The Baylor prospect finished with 28 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block which was easily the best line of the night. Oklahoma City's guard, Semaj Christon, finished with 10 points and four assists in 22 minutes of floor time. Blue forward, Talib Zanna (6'9''-F-90, college: Pittsburgh) played 20 minutes and ended the day with four points and three boards. As a team the West shot 48 percent on 38-of-79 shooting including 11-of-23 from three. The East was led by game MVP, Andre Emmett of Ft. Wayne, who finished with 28 points, four rebounds and four steals in the victory. The Futures had seven more players score in double figures outside of Emmett as the rode their way to an easy All-Star victory. The East shot 55 percent on 49-of-89 from the field but made 15 of their 32 3-point attempts. There were hardly any fouls as the teams combined for just 27 foul shots. It was really a travesty that Quincy Miller-Scott didn't win the MVP as he clearly had the best stats of the night and clearly identified himself as the best player in the league. Semaj looked really good early on as he was the West's best player for the first 10 minutes of the game but he struggled in the second half as he was 2-of-4 in the second half. But regardless, Semaj has solidified himself as one of the best young guards in basketball and Thunder fans should be excited to have him in their cupboard. Talib Zanna never seemed to get set as I don't think he was ready to play since he was selected for the game in the middle of the week. With that being said, Zanna didn't get many good looks offensively but played really well at times on the defensive end of the floor. It was a good opportunity for these players to showcase their ability in front of fans who traditionally don't follow the D-League and it's something that Christon and Zanna will always remember.
