Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Railsplitters players who continue their career in pro basketball.
Notice impressive performance of Devin Whitfield (20 points), Martez Brown (0 points), and Steven-Emile Perriere (6 points).
#1. Devin Whitfield, a 6'5'' guard who graduated from LMU in 2021, has been making waves in the Dutch Basketball League while playing professionally in Holland. His impressive performance on Wednesday night against ZZ Leiden showcased his skills and talent as he led Zwolle to a convincing 90-74 victory. Whitfield's standout performance earned him the title of MVP of the game, where he scored 20 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and provided 1 assist in 31 minutes of play. This game was a highly anticipated matchup between two top 4 ranked teams, and Whitfield's contributions were crucial in securing the win for his team, Landstede Hammers Zwolle. Despite this being his first season with the team, Whitfield has quickly established himself as a key player with his consistent play on both ends of the court. With an average of 9.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game (the third best in the league) in the 10 games he has played so far this season, Whitfield has been a valuable asset to his team. His dedication, skill, and determination exemplify why he is considered a champion in the sport of basketball, consistently delivering strong performances to help his team succeed.
#2. Martez Brown, a 25-year-old 6'9'' forward and Railsplitters alumni from 2024, currently plays professionally in Australia. While he helped his former team to clinch the SAC Regular Season Co-Champion title that year, his recent performance with the Hornsby Ku-ring-Gai Spiders unfortunately did not result in a win. Despite an impressive showing in their last game against the Falcons, where the 13th-placed HKBA Spiders fell short to the lower-ranked (#14) team with a score of 89-104, Brown displayed his talent on the court by recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Additionally, he contributed 3 assists and 3 steals in 35 minutes of play, showcasing his versatility and skill set. This remarkable performance is particularly noteworthy as Brown is only in his second season of professional basketball. Throughout the current season, Brown has maintained solid statistics, averaging 10.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game over 11 appearances. Despite the challenges faced by the team, Brown's consistent contributions and strong presence on the court reflect his dedication and potential as a standout player in the league.
#3. French player Steven-Emile Perriere, standing at 6'8'' and playing as a center/forward, showcased his skills in a recent Rwandan Rwanda Basketball League match. Playing for UGB, he played a significant role in their narrow 79-76 victory over the closely-ranked Kepler team. Despite being his first game of the season, Perriere made an impact by scoring 6 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and providing 1 assist during his 25 minutes on the court. This impressive performance not only helped UGB secure the win but also highlighted Perriere's capabilities as a champion player. His contributions were crucial in the derby game, emphasizing his importance to the team. Additionally, his team's current fifth position in the league standings indicates their competitiveness throughout the season. Moreover, it is worth noting that Perriere, a LMU graduate from 2019 who now plays professionally in Rwanda, holds a Central Africa passport. As the Regular Season has already concluded, Perriere's exceptional skills and dedication have undoubtedly positioned him as a key player and champion within the league.
#4. Chris Perry, a 6'8'' forward who is 32 years old and an alumnus of Railsplitters from 2017, has been making waves in the professional basketball scene in Mexico. Playing for Astros de Jalisco, he recently led his team to a dominant victory over the fifth-ranked Angeles with a score of 114-75 in the Mexican Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacifico. Perry showcased his skills by achieving a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. This outstanding performance contributed to Astros de Jalisco maintaining their top position in the league with a remarkable record of 38-2 and securing their 14th consecutive win. Perry's impressive display on the court did not go unnoticed, earning him the Triple-Double Badge from eurobasket.com. This recognition solidified his reputation as a champion player. Throughout the season, Perry has maintained good statistics, averaging 12.6 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game in the 47 games he has played. His consistent contributions and exceptional skills have undoubtedly been instrumental in his team's success, establishing him as a key player and a finalist to watch in future games.
