defeats Columbus in OT for 2006 IBL Championship - July 16, 2006
The Elkhart Express completed an
outstanding inaugural season in the IBL with a 119-108 victory over the Columbus
Cyclones to become the 2006 IBL Champions.
Columbus led by two at the half, and by seven going into the fourth quarter. The
Express rallied to take a two point lead in the closing seconds, before Columbus
tied the game on their final possession to force overtime. Elkhart took command
of the game in the extra period—outscoring the Cyclones 19-8 to earn the title.

Cedric Moodie (6'2''-G-78, college:
Indianapolis (IN)) was named the 2006 IBL Championship MVP. Moodie finished with a
game-high 27 points, including five three pointers. Moodie also grabbed seven
rebounds. Darmetreis Kilgore added 24 points and nine rebounds for the Express.
Michael Brownlee nailed six threes for Columbus in leading the Cyclones with 23
points.

Hungry West routs East in 2006 IBL All-Star Game
The
IBL’s West Division All-Stars were underdogs on paper, but they certainly did
not play like it in Saturday’s IBL All-Star Game. The West squad cruised to a
179-141 victory over a loaded East team.
Jay Anderson (6'9''-C, college:
Oregon) of
the Eugene Chargers got things started for the West with a 17 point first
quarter. Anderson, who finished with five three pointers, earned a
co-championship with Shane Conwell of Cuyahoga Falls in the Three Point Shootout
by hitting 21 of 25 three pointers in the final.
Ryan Edwards (6'5''-F-83, college:
Missouri Baptist) of the Lake County Lakers won the Slam Dunk Contest.
Rashaad Powell (6'5''-F-81, agency:
Domantay Sports, college:
Idaho) of
the Seattle Mountaineers led all scorers with 31 points. Powell was named the
game’s MVP. Powell’s teammates from Seattle, Aleksey Adediran and
Donald Watts (6'4''-G-77, agency:

college: Washington) were also instrumental in the West’s win. Adediran finished with
28 points, and Watts added 19.
Earnest Cobbin (6'3''-F) was the East’s top scorer with 27 points.

move on to IBL Championship with win over Flight
Columbus (122) vs. Grand Rapids

The Cyclones advanced to Sunday's Championship game with a win over the Flight
that was closer than the 12 point final margin indicates. Michael Brownlee
caught fire from behind the arc for Columbus--hitting nine three pointers en
route to a game-high 33 points. Carlton Aarons led the Flight with 28 points and
13 rebounds.

Elkhart (127) vs.
Lansing (96)
The Capital's playoff run came to a halt on Friday, when Lansing faced the top
-seeded Express in front of 2,700 fans in North Side Gym. Elkhart took control
of the game early, and was never threatened by the upstart Capitals.
Holland (144) vs. Battle Creek (139)
Holland's victory ensures that a new IBL Champion would be crowned in
2006. The Blast knocked out the defending champs by controlling the fourth
quarter--outscoring the Knights 44-33 to advance to tomorrow's semifinal round.

The Cyclones will move on to the semifinals following their convincing
victory over the Cougars. Eight Cyclones scored in double figures in the win,
led by 22 points from Esteban Weaver.
Carlton Dean (6'5''-F) led all scorers with 27 points for the the Cougars.
Grand Rapids (119) vs. Elgin (110)
Grand Rapids and Elgin started the quarterfinal action on Friday, with the
Flight earning the win behind a dominating fourth quarter effort. Down eight
after three quarters, Grand Rapids outscored Elgin 38-21 in the final period to
get the win.

outlast Lakers in thrilling IBL Championship Tournament opener - July 14, 2006

The Capitals and Lakers kicked off the 2006 IBL Championship Tournament with a
bang--a high scoring thriller that wasn't decided until the final shot. Lansing
had four players score 23 points or more--led by 32 points from Jason Franklin.
Ryan Edwards and Ameer Watts each eclipsed the 30 point mark for the Lakers,
with Edwards finishing with a game-high 38 points. With the win, the Capitals
advance to face top seeded Elkhart today at 7pm. Scoring Summary. |
