Hawks soar to eighth CCAA Men's Baksetball Championship-Mar 16, 2025
The Durham Lords vied for gold against the Humber Hawks in the final game of the CCAA Championship. Humber’s #14 Adrian Aluyi (6'6''-SF) scored the first points for his team less than a minute after the quarter began. Adopting an aggressive offensive approach, the Lords took the lead back halfway through the first quarter that ended with the Lords leading 20-16. Durham managed to stay ahead during the second quarter thanks to their strong defensive and offensive control of the court. The score at the end of the quarter was 35-27 for the Durham Lords. In the third quarter the teams were evenly matched but despite the Hawks adopting a stronger offensive in the third quarter, they couldn’t close the point gap, due in part to Durham’s #12 Jasean Elliott (6'3''-G) and #4 Miles Hall (6'0''-PG) scoring 3 pointers one after the other. The crowd got progressively more enthusiastic as the game advanced into the final quarter with 55-46 for the Lords. The last quarter was marked by a surprising turn of events when the Hawks managed to take the lead over Durham thanks to four 3 pointers in the last half of the quarter. The Humber Hawks won the 2025 CCAA Basketball, 76-70. The player of the game for the Durham Lords was #10 Rashane Smith and #14 Adrian Aluyi for the Humber Hawks. Congratulations to the Humber Hawks on winning the 2025 CCAA Gold Medal and the Durham Lords on winning the Silver Medal! The face-off for Bronze Medal took place between the Vanier Cheetahs and the Dynamiques de Brébeuf. The first quarter began with a strong offensive from both teams. The Cheetahs took the lead when #6 Jason Junior Ebinumolise scored right after entering the court. The Dynamiques also made their mark with a steal followed by a successful shot by #13 Giorgio Azzi (6'3''-G-2005). The quarter ended with a score of 16-9 in favour of the Cheetahs. In the second quarter, the Dynamiques took advantage of most of their rebound opportunities. Notably, #11 Édouard Gauthier scored a 3-pointer after Brébeuf managed to steal the ball from the Cheetahs. The score remained tied 28-28 during the last minutes of the quarter. The Cheetahs took the lead early in the third quarter with #7 Jeremy Lalonde-Hines scoring a 3 pointer thirty seconds after the start of the second half. The Dynamiques retaliated and scored 10 points in less than five minutes, which allowed them to take the lead. Vanier supporters regained hope when #7 Jeremy Lalonde Hines scored another 3-pointer as the quarter ended, giving Vanier a 45-42 score. The Cheetahs experienced a difficult start in the fourth quarter, losing the ball several times to their opponents.
