#1. Melod Trimble, a 31-year-old guard who graduated from Maryland in 2018 and currently plays professionally in Russia, showcased his skills and leadership on the court as he led his Russian team CSKA to a decisive 102-89 victory over the closely-ranked UNICS in the VTB United League on Thursday night. In this highly anticipated matchup between two top 4 ranked teams, Trimble's exceptional performance earned him the title of MVP of the game. The thrilling encounter saw Trimble scoring an impressive 28 points and making 4 crucial assists in just 28 minutes of play. This victory marked CSKA Moscow's tenth consecutive win, further solidifying their position as the top team in the league with a record of 37-3. Trimble's stellar contribution, scoring prowess, and playmaking abilities were instrumental in securing the win for his team in this pivotal game. His remarkable display of talent and determination exemplified why he is a champion. Individually, Trimble has been having an outstanding season, consistently putting up high statistics. He currently averages 18.9 points per game (the second-best in the league), along with 2.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game (the fourth-best in the league). Trimble's impressive performance both as a scorer and a playmaker underscores his status as a finalist in the league, showcasing his immense value to his team and his prowess on the basketball court.
#2. Angolan Bruno Fernando, a 6'10'' center and 27-year-old Terrapins alumnus from 2019 who received the All-Big Ten First Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Serbia. In the recent game, despite his standout performance, Fernando couldn't prevent Partizan (21-3) from suffering a defeat of 86-81 on the road against the top-ranked Dubai team. Fernando displayed his skills by leading his team in scoring with 16 points, securing 7 rebounds, and contributing 2 blocks in just 22 minutes of play. His impressive individual performance wasn't enough to secure a victory for Partizan. Throughout the season, Fernando has been maintaining solid averages of 9.8 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 1.1 blocks per game, which ranks him as the fourth-best shot blocker in the league.
#3. Donta Scott, a 6'8'' forward who graduated from Maryland in 2024 and received an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention award that same year, currently plays professionally in France for Nanterre 92. #5. Eric Ayala, a 6'6'' guard/forward who graduated from Maryland in 2022 and received an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention award that year, currently plays professionally in Puerto Rico. Despite his strong performance, he was unable to assist the Mets de Guaynabo in their recent game last Wednesday. The Guaynabo team, currently in fourth place with a record of 12-14, suffered a 104-89 defeat against the second-ranked Criollos in the Group B, despite Ayala's contribution of 13 points and 2 assists in 31 minutes of play. Ayala's impressive skills were on display during the game against Caguas, where he showcased his scoring ability with 13 points and playmaking with 2 assists.
