IBA-PBL was created in 2012 as a result of a merger between Independent Basketball Association (IBA) and Premier Basketball League (PBL). But the merger was short-lived and ended after first spring season 2013. Travel issues, questions of league rules and other issues were too much to overcome and the two parted ways.
The IBA has named the recipients of the 2012 Winter season. The awards were based on coaches votes, in 7 categories. Those categories included; Regular Season MVP, Coach of the Year, Manager of the Year, 6th Man Award, Defensive Player of the Year, Citizens Award and Playoff MVP.
Regular Season MVP: Billy Baptist (6'5''-F-87, college: Quincy), Kankakee County Soldiers Coach of the Year: Terry Sare , Battle Creek Knights Manager of the Year: Barry Bradford , Kankakee County Soldiers 6th Man Award: Milan Pepper (6'3''-G-80, college: Harris-Stowe), St. Louis Trotters Defensive Player of the Year: Thomas Cobbs (6'4''-G-89, college: Rock Valley JC), Kenosha Ballers Citizens Award: Ryan Edwards (6'5''-F-83, college: Missouri Baptist), Kankakee County Soldiers Playoff MVP: Tony Bennett (6'1''-G-84, college: Bradley), Kankakee County Soldiers

KANKAKEE COUNTY SOLDIERS 4-PEAT! - Jan 22, 2013
The reigning Independent Basketball Association champions, the Kankakee County Soldiers, won their 4th straight minor championship since the IBA first started in the winter of 2011. With a victory over the Battle Creek Knights, in a hard fought deciding game of the best of three series, the Soldiers beat the Knights by a final score of 136-117. The Soldiers, Tony Bennett (6'1''-G-84, college: Bradley), led all scorers with 40 points while 2-time league MVP Ryan Edwards (6'5''-F-83, college: Missouri Baptist) chipped in 26 points. The Soldiers will take some time off before the Spring season begins in March, where they'll try for their 4th straight Championship, but it won't come easy. The IBA has signed a merger deal with the Premier Basketball League, raising the competition level in the already very competitive IBA. With the additions of new teams from across the country, these teams will definitely be ready to dethrone the champions. The IBA-PBL Spring season is set to begin on March 2nd and will carry on until June. For more information about the IBA-PBL teams, game dates or other information please visit the new website at www.iba-pbl.net after January, 29, 2013.
