Bracey, Booker lead PrimeTime Players to Super Cup victory - Jun 27, 2021

History was made on June 26 when the champions of ECBL South and ECBL Mid-Atlantic met in the first-ever Super Cup. After four hard-fought quarters it was PrimeTime Players who came away with the trophy defeating Western Mass Zombies 133-129.

Early on the six-time ECBL champions were firing on all cylinders as PrimeTime led 32-22 after one quarter. The Zombies cut that deficit by one at the halftime break 66-55.

An early third quarter run had PrimeTIme Players leading by 12 before the Western Mass Zombies offense battled back behind the shooting of Tyler Desrosiers (6'2''-G, college: Post) make it 93-91 with one quarter to go.

In the end the experience and poise of PrimeTime proved to be the difference. The trio of Lysander Bracey (6'4''-G-96, college: Hampton), Van Turner Jr. (6'1''-G, college: Queens, NC) and Chris Moore (6'2''-G-86, college: Charleston So.) combined to make 13 three-pointers in the game while Trevor Booker (6'8''-F-87, college: Clemson) (31 points, 26 rebounds, three blocks) and Odell Turner (6'7''-PF-91, college: Wingate) (nine points, 16 rebounds, four blocks) dominated the inside.

PrimeTime Players win sixth league title - Jun 22, 2021

Season 7 of the East Coast Basketball League came to a conclusion last weekend with two long-time foes meeting in the championship game. PrimeTime Players, the only champion the league has ever known, took on a surprising North Carolina Coyotes squad who won four straight to reach the championship game. The two teams played a thriller with PrimeTime Players coming out on top 130-128.

North Carolina Coyotes surprised many with their late season run to the championship game. After a 5-7 regular season the squad based in Durham entered the Mid-South playoffs as the four-seed. Wins against Rowan County Bulls, North Carolina Capitals and Petersburg Cavaliers propelled the team to their first conference title in team history.

On paper the matchup with PrimeTime looked to be a longshot, but the Coyotes proved their run was no fluke as they went toe-to-toe for 48 minutes with the champs. Trailing by two with :22 on the clock Coyotes guard Aaron Dawson (SG) drove to the basket only to be denied by Trevor Booker (6'8''-F-87, college: Clemson). Chris Moore (6'2''-G-86, college: Charleston So.) was fouled and sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Booker led the way on both ends scoring a team-best 29 points and 20 rebounds. The former NBA mainstay added seven assists along with three steals and two blocked shots.

The veteran Moore, who was named playoff MVP, scored 27 while dishing out 11 assists and six rebounds. In two playoff games Moore scored scored 64 points, 16 rebounds and 22 assists.

Six of seven players in the PrimeTime lineup scored in double-figures including Van Turner Jr. (6'1''-G, college: Queens, NC) (25 points, six rebounds) and Ricardo Glenn (6'8''-C-90, college: USC Upstate) with 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Lysander Bracey (6'4''-G-96, college: Hampton) and James Murray (6'0''-PG, college: Sandhills CC) chipped in with 16 points each.

History made; Zombies win first-ever Mid-Atlantic title - Jun 21, 2021

History was made in Springfield, Massachusetts on June 19 with the first-ever ECBL Mid-Atlantic championship game. It was a clash of the top two teams in the seven-team circuit with host Western Mass Zombiess facing the Hub City Hogs. The game turned into an instant classic as the home team battled back to win in overtime 122-117.

Prior to the game Zombies guard Tylon Smith (6'2''-G-92, college: S.Connecticut, agency: Interperformances) was awarded the Mid-Atlantic MVP award. Helping led the Zombies to the best record in the regular season, Smith averaged 25.2 points along with 6.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. The 28-year old played four seasons at NCAA Division II Southern Connecticut State, starting in 117 of 125 games.

Smith was a key factor in the championship game as well. Leading by three after one quarter, Hub City took control in the second on their way to a 56-49 halftime advantage. The Hogs would extend that lead in the third, at one time leading by 12. Hub City took an 86-77 lead into the fourth.

It was then that the Zombies made their run, outscoring the visitors 11-2 in the opening minutes to tie the game at 88-88. With momentum on their side along with an enthusiastic home crowd Western Mass looked on their way to raising the trophy. Leading by two with just :06 on the clock Hub City tied the game 109-109. A long three pointer at the buzzer was off the mark sending the game into overtime.

Defense tightened in the extra period before a three pointer by Smith gave the Zombies a 112-111 lead they would not give up. Smith would score the final 11 points for the Zombies on his way to a game-high 32 points along with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Jahmerikah Green-Younger (6'1''-G, college: AMC) poured in 26 points for Western Mass while Tyler Desrosiers (6'2''-G, college: Post) added 22 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The big man in the middle for Western Mass, Malik Petteway (6'8''-F-97, college: RMU), had another game to remember scoring 12 points while pulling down 19 rebounds and six blocked shots. Petteway was second among all ECBL players in rebounds (17.1 per game) during the regular season.

Robby Jones (5'9''-PG, college: Westfield St.) provided offense off the bench with 15 points while Larry Mckinney (6'2''-G) scored four points and eight boards.

Up next the Western Mass Zombiess (11-3) is a date with the champions of ECBL South - PrimeTime Players (15-2) in the first ECBL Super Cup. The game is scheduled for Saturday 6:00 PM at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
