VIU Mariners Crowned at CCAA Championship-Mar 22, 2026
Championship Final VIU Mariners 72, Fanshawe Falcons 58 The VIU Mariners are national champions. After a tightly contested opening quarter, VIU seized control in the second frame and never looked back, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons 72–58 to claim the CCAA title. Fanshawe held an early edge, leading 18–16 after the first quarter, but VIU responded with a decisive 26-point second quarter to take a 42–35 halftime lead. That momentum carried through the second half, where the Mariners’ defensive pressure and perimeter shooting proved decisive. VIU’s balanced attack was led by Sarah Cook (5'7''-G) with 18 points, while Samantha Shields added 17 and Kaia Simpson (6'0''-F, college: Mount Olive) chipped in 10 off the bench. The Mariners were particularly effective from beyond the arc, shooting an efficient 47.6% from three-point range. Fanshawe was paced by Ashlyn Anderson (6'3''-F)’s double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Edith Eseme (5'8''-G)’s 14 points, but struggled with turnovers and second-half shooting, finishing at 39% from the field. VIU’s depth and composure ultimately separated the teams, as they closed out the game with a controlled fourth quarter to secure the national championship. Bronze Medal Game Saint-Jean 84, Dawson 58 The Saint-Jean captured bronze in emphatic fashion, pulling away late to defeat the host Dawson Blues 84–58. However, Saint-Jean gradually found its rhythm and flipped the game in the second quarter, taking a 35–30 lead into the break. The turning point came in the fourth quarter. Saint-Jean exploded for 31 points, overwhelming Dawson with relentless pace, rebounding, and transition scoring. Madina-Aissata Cissé delivered a dominant performance with 18 points and 14 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends. Deborah Damoah) added 12 points and five assists, while Stella-Rose Archambault) provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on efficient shooting. Dawson was led by Mia Simpson’s 18 points, but struggled with ball control, committing 28 turnovers that Saint-Jean converted into key scoring opportunities.
