Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Here is the weekly review of the top performing 49ers alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Experienced South Sudanese player Emmanuel Malou, a 6'9'' forward/center who graduated from Iowa State in 2016, showcased his skills in a recent game for the Diamond Valley Eagles. Despite his solid performance, the team, currently ranked 16th in the league with a 4-9 record, suffered a tough 105-83 loss to the top-ranked Wildcats in the South group. Malou contributed 11 points in just 20 minutes of play. In a previous game against Eltham, Malou once again demonstrated his talent by scoring 11 points and securing 2 rebounds. However, despite his individual efforts, the Diamond Valley Eagles were unable to secure a victory. Malou has been maintaining good statistics this season, averaging 13.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in the 11 games he has participated in thus far. An interesting fact about Malou is that he holds dual American and South Sudanese citizenship, allowing him to play as a domestic player in South Sudan if he chooses to do so. His experience and skills make him a valuable asset to his team, and his contributions on the court are crucial for the Diamond Valley Eagles as they strive to improve their standing in the league.
#2. Cornell Greenwood, a 6'2'' guard and Redhawks alumni from 2024 who honed his skills at Yuba CC between 2018 and 2020, is currently making waves as a professional player in Antigua. Despite his stellar performance, he was unable to steer DA-Project to victory in their recent game against the Flyers, the top team in the league. In a closely contested match, DA-Project succumbed 84-89 in a thrilling derby clash. Greenwood showcased his talent by scoring 18 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and providing 3 assists during his 40 minutes on the court. This remarkable display is even more impressive considering that Greenwood is only in his second season of professional basketball. His standout efforts against the Flyers were noteworthy, although they were not enough to secure the win for his team. Throughout the season, Greenwood has maintained impressive statistics, averaging 18.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 4.7 steals per game, the second-highest in the league. His consistent high-level performance has marked him as a standout player in the league, showcasing his prowess as a champion player in the making.
#3. Kameron Warrens, a 6'5'' guard who graduated from Mary in 2023, previously showcased his skills at Yuba CC between 2018 and 2020, where he played a crucial role in helping them secure the Bay Valley Conference Champion title. Currently, Warrens is competing professionally in Canada. In a recent match, Warrens, representing the Niagara River Lions, faced off against the Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Despite his efforts, scoring 9 points and providing 3 assists in 19 minutes, Warrens and his team fell short to the Bandits with a final score of 100-110 on the road. Although the Niagara River Lions are currently ranked #4, it's still early in the season and there is ample opportunity for them to turn things around. Warrens demonstrated his skills in another game against Vancouver, contributing 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. However, despite his strong performance, his team was unable to secure the victory. In the five games he has played this year, Warrens has been averaging 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. As the season progresses, Warrens will have more opportunities to showcase his talent and help lead his team to success.
