Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Here is the weekly review of the top performing Eagles alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
Especially interesting is good performance of DeAndre Gholston (15 points), Norbertas Giga (21 points), and Amir Gholizadeh (17 points).
#1. DeAndre Gholston, a 6'5'' guard who is 25 years old, graduated from Missouri in 2023. He previously played in Tallahassee between 2019 and 2020, where he helped them become the Panhandle Conference Regular Season Champion that year. Currently, Gholston is playing professionally in France for Cholet Basket. In their recent game last Sunday, despite his standout performance, Cholet Basket (19-11) was defeated 95-86 on the road by the second-ranked Paris Basket. Gholston showcased his skills by emerging as the top scorer with 15 points in 26 minutes of play. This season marks his first with the team, and he has been averaging 9.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. In the game against Paris, Gholston displayed an impressive performance, scoring 15 points, securing 1 rebound, and contributing 2 assists. Despite his commendable efforts, his team ultimately fell short, resulting in a loss for Cholet Basket.
#2. Lithuanian Norbertas Giga, a 31-year-old forward/center standing at 6'10'' and an alumnus of the Gamecocks since 2018, previously played in Tallahassee between 2014 and 2015. He recently showcased his skills playing professionally in Paraguay. In a recent game, Giga, despite his notable performance, couldn't lift Colonias (10-4) to a victory against the top-ranked San Jose, with Colonias falling 106-93 in a closely watched derby match. Giga emerged as the second-highest scorer of the game, contributing 21 points along with 9 rebounds in 31 minutes of play. With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, each upcoming match holds significant importance for Colonias. In the match against San Jose, Giga displayed his capabilities by scoring 21 points, securing 9 rebounds, and making 2 assists. Despite his remarkable efforts, victory eluded his team on that occasion. Throughout the season, Giga has maintained solid statistics, averaging 12.0 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game (the second-best in the league), 3.5 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game. As the Regular Season nears its conclusion, Giga's contributions will be crucial for Colonias as they strive towards success in the league.
#3. Canadian player Amir Gholizadeh, a 26-year-old guard standing at 6'6'', graduated from Tallahassee in 2021. That year, he played a pivotal role in helping his team become the Panhandle Conference Regular Season Co-Champion. Currently, he is showcasing his skills as a professional player in Vietnam. Recently, he led the Hanoi Buffaloes to a resounding victory over the struggling Catfish team, with a final score of 116-80 in the Vietnamese Vietnam Basketball Association on Thursday night. In an impressive display, Gholizadeh contributed 17 points and 6 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play. The Hanoi Buffaloes, boasting a 4-0 record, are positioned as the league's second-place team. With a flawless record in the Regular Season thus far, Gholizadeh's team is showing great promise. However, as it is still early in the season, there is always room for unexpected outcomes. Gholizadeh's stellar performance against Catfish reinforced his reputation as a champion on the court. His notable statistics for the season include averaging 16.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. It is worth mentioning that Gholizadeh holds Iranian nationality, adding to his diverse background as a talented basketball player.
#4. Canadian Addison Patterson, a 6'7'' forward who is 24 years old and an Eagles alumni from 2026, previously played in Tallahassee between 2022 and 2023, where he helped them achieve the title of FCSAA Panhandle Conference Regular Season Co-Champion in 2023. Currently, he plays professionally in Canada but recently could not assist the struggling Calgary Surge (0-7) in their game last Wednesday. Despite his commendable performance, Patterson's team, ranked #5, suffered an 88-76 defeat against the River Lions in Niagara. Patterson emerged as the second-highest scorer for Calgary, contributing 15 points and securing 7 rebounds within 31 minutes of play. However, despite his solid individual performance, he and his team fell short of securing the victory against Niagara. Throughout the season, Patterson has maintained relatively good statistics, averaging 10.1 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game.
