Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC We bring you last week's top former Pirates players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
Notice impressive performance of Hassani Gravett (24 points), Deng Mayot (0 points), and Colin Howells (2 points).
#1. Hassani Gravett, a 6'2'' guard who is 29 years old and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2019, has been showcasing his skills in the Azerbaijani basketball league. Despite previously playing at Pensacola JC between 2015 and 2016, where he earned the All-Panhandle Conference First Team award, Gravett is now making waves as a professional player in Azerbaijan. In a recent thrilling matchup between Sabah and Absheron, Gravett played a pivotal role in his team's victory over the second-ranked Absheron with a score of 108-95. Displaying his versatility on the court, he scored 24 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and provided 9 assists in just 33 minutes of play. This standout performance helped Sabah secure a crucial win in a highly anticipated game between two top 3 ranked teams in Group Grupa A, with Sabah currently leading the pack at 19-1. Gravett's contributions were instrumental in his team's 11th consecutive victory, showcasing his ability to excel under pressure and lead his team to success. His exceptional performance against Absheron solidified his reputation as a champion, with his impressive stats for the season further highlighting his impact on the court. Currently averaging 18.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists (the second-best in the league), and 1.7 steals per game, Gravett continues to shine as a key player in the Azerbaijani Basketball League.
#2. Australian champion Deng Mayot, a 6'7'' forward aged 27 and an alum of the Patriots in 2021, previously honed his skills at Pensacola JC from 2017 to 2018 before making his mark in professional basketball in Australia. Recently, Mayot, although a standout player, was unable to lead the South West Metro Pirates to victory against the Spartans in the Australian NBL One, the second division league. Despite his commendable effort, scoring 3 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing 3 assists in 24 minutes of play, the Pirates suffered a crushing 95-48 defeat on the road against the higher-ranked Spartans, currently sitting at #6 in the North group standings. With this loss, the South West Metro Pirates now hold a 0-4 record in the Regular Season. However, it is worth noting that the season is still in its early stages, leaving room for improvement and unexpected turnarounds. In a recent game against the SD Spartans, Mayot displayed a strong performance by contributing 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Despite his noteworthy stats, his team fell short of clinching the victory. Throughout the season, Mayot has been maintaining solid averages of 9.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game, showcasing his value as a key player for the South West Metro Pirates.
#3. Australian player Colin Howells, standing at 6'10'' and 23 years old, completed his education at Mobile, AL in 2025. Before that, he honed his skills at Pensacola JC from 2022 to 2023. Currently, he is showcasing his talents as a professional player in Australia. Unfortunately, in a recent match, Howells, a finalist, was unable to guide the Kalamunda Eastern Suns (6-2) to victory against the Eagles (5-3) in the Australian NBL One competition, considered the second division. Despite his efforts, the Eastern Suns suffered a heavy 104-79 defeat at the hands of the Eagles, who were ranked lower at #5 in the West group. During the game, Howells struggled to make an impact, only managing to score 2 points in 7 minutes of playtime. This performance left him feeling dissatisfied, as it was not one of his best showings on the court. In a separate match against East Perth E, he contributed 2 points and 1 assist, but his team still fell short of securing the win. Throughout the season, the talented player, Howells, maintains an average of 3.3 points per game, striving to elevate his game and contribute more significantly to his team's success.
#4. Dominican Republic native Yeikson Montero, a 6'5'' forward who is 29 years old, is a former Eagles alumnus from 2021. He also played at Pensacola JC between 2017 and 2019, where he received the prestigious All-Panhandle Conference First Team award. Montero currently showcases his skills as a professional basketball player in Venezuela. In a recent game, Montero played a pivotal role in Heroes' triumph over one of the league's weaker teams, Centauros, with a final score of 89-79 in favor of Heroes. Montero's remarkable performance included scoring an impressive 26 points, securing 7 rebounds, and providing 3 assists during his 34 minutes on the court. This standout display not only highlighted his individual talents but also greatly contributed to his team's success, showcasing his true capabilities as a champion. Despite Heroes De Falcon being ranked ninth in the league with a record of 10-14, Montero's exceptional season has not gone unnoticed. He has consistently delivered high statistics throughout the season, averaging 17.3 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game (leading the league in this category), 2.5 assists per game, and 1.8 steals per game (ranking fourth best in the league). Montero's impressive performance on the court further solidifies his reputation as a finalist with a promising future in professional basketball.
