Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC We bring you last week's top former Mustangs players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Braylon Steen, a 6'6'' guard/forward aged 27, who graduated from CBC in 2023 and received the All-AMC Third Team award that same year, currently showcases his talent in the TBL as a professional player. In a recent game for the Little Rock Lightning, despite his remarkable performance, the team, ranked #4, faced a tough loss of 119-97 against the Ads Sentinels. Steen's contributions on the court were significant, as he achieved a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while also providing 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals in 38 minutes of play. This noteworthy performance is especially impressive considering Steen is only in his third season of professional basketball. With just three games remaining in The Basketball League Regular Season, each upcoming match holds crucial importance. Even though Steen exhibited exceptional skills by scoring 27 points, securing 13 rebounds, and distributing 3 assists against the Ads Sentinels, his team fell short in clinching the victory. Nevertheless, his outstanding display earned him the prestigious Triple-Double Badge from eurobasket.com. Throughout the season, Steen has maintained impressive individual statistics, averaging 18.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game in the nine matches he has competed in so far.
#2. Preston Whitfield, a 6'1'' guard and 29-year-old former Mustangs alumni from 2021, who helped them become the champion of the AMC Tournament that year, currently plays professionally in the TBL. In the recent game, Whitfield unfortunately could not lead the Willamette Valley Jaguars (2-14) to victory. Despite his stellar performance, where he scored 29 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (impressively going 10 for 10 at the free-throw line) in 42 minutes, the Willamette Valley Jaguars (#5) fell short on the road against the Tri-Cities Sun Devils, losing 120-124. This defeat marked the tenth consecutive loss for the Willamette Valley Jaguars, putting them in a challenging position with only two games remaining in The Basketball League Regular Season. Whitfield has been having an outstanding individual season, boasting impressive averages of 22.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game in the 13 games he has played so far. Despite his exceptional performances, the team is in dire need of victories to improve their standings as they approach the end of the season.
