Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Falcons players who continue their career in pro basketball.
Especially interesting is good performance of Youssef Khayat (17 points), Jason Spurgin (20 points), and Wes Alcegaire (13 points).
#1. Lebanese champion Youssef Khayat, a 23-year-old forward standing at 6'9'' who graduated from BGSU in 2025, has been making waves in the basketball scene. Playing professionally in Lebanon, he was named to the Asia-Basket.com Arab Club Championship All-Asians Team in his debut year. In a recent match, Khayat led his team, Sagesse, to a resounding 106-60 victory over the seventh-ranked Homentmen in a thrilling derby game in the Lebanese Decathlon Lebanese Basketball League. His stellar performance included scoring 17 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 9 assists, and stealing 3 balls in just 34 minutes of play. Despite it being his first season in professional basketball, Khayat has been a standout player for Sagesse - Al Hekmeh Beirut, currently placed second in the league. The team's recent win marked their eighth consecutive victory, showcasing their dominance on the court. This season has been particularly impressive for Khayat, who is averaging 20.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in the 22 matches he has played so far. It's worth noting that this is just the beginning of what promises to be a bright career for the talented champion Youssef Khayat, as he continues to excel on the basketball court.
#2. British champion Jason Spurgin, a 6'11'' center at 24 years old and a Falcons alumnus from 2024 who currently plays professionally in Australia, was unable to lead the Sutherland Sharks (5-6) to victory in their recent game. Despite his outstanding performance, the tenth-placed Sutherland Sharks suffered a defeat on the road, losing 87-95 to the lower-ranked (#13) Spiders in the East group. Spurgin showcased his skills with a double-double, scoring 20 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists in 32 minutes of play. This notable performance is particularly impressive considering it is only Spurgin's second season in professional basketball. He displayed his talent against the HKBA Spiders, contributing significantly with his 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. However, despite his stellar efforts, his team was unable to secure the win. Throughout the season, Spurgin has maintained impressive individual statistics, averaging 20.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game over eight games. It is also interesting to note that Spurgin holds both American and British citizenship, enabling him to play in the United Kingdom as a domestic player.
#3. Wes Alcegaire, a 6'6'' forward who is 31 years old and graduated from BGSU in 2017, showcased his skills as a professional player in Paraguay by leading his team, San Jose, to a thrilling 93-89 victory against the closely-ranked Felix Perez in a derby game in the Paraguayan LNB last Thursday. In a game that was highly anticipated as a clash between two top 4 ranked teams, Alcegaire's performance stood out as he recorded 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist in 32 minutes of play. This victory marked San Jose's 11th consecutive win, further solidifying their position as the top team in the league with a record of 13-1. Alcegaire's exceptional display on the court against Felix Perez not only helped secure the win for his team but also highlighted his capabilities as a champion player. His consistent performance throughout the season is evident in his solid statistics, averaging 11.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in 10 appearances. It is worth noting that Alcegaire, a naturalized American, continues to make significant contributions to his team's success, proving himself as a valuable asset and a key player in their journey towards becoming champions.
#4. Jamaican Trey Thomas, a 6'0'' Point Guard at 25 years old and a Falcons alumnus from 2025, showcased his talent as he led the Scarborough Shooting Stars to a convincing 95-78 victory against the Stingers (3-5) in the Canadian Elite Basketball League this past Saturday. Despite playing professionally in Canada, Thomas proved his worth by contributing 11 points and 4 rebounds in just 17 minutes of play. The Scarborough Shooting Stars currently hold a moderately weak 8-1 record this season, with Thomas playing a key role in their recent success. This win marked his team's fourth consecutive victory, further solidifying their position in the league standings. Thomas also displayed his versatility on the court by providing 1 assist in addition to his scoring and rebounding efforts against the Edmonton team, contributing significantly to another important win for his team. His consistent and impactful performances highlight why he is truly a champion in the sport. Throughout the season, Thomas has been maintaining solid statistics with an average of 9.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game over nine games. Additionally, it is noteworthy that he holds dual American and Jamaican citizenship, allowing him to potentially play as a domestic player in Jamaica.
